- tenacity
I realized something kind of important this evening, something I kinda might of known for a while, but maybe just wasn't willing to admit. Commitment is a very important quality; I do not want to be known as someone who is saying one thing, but then doing another. So here I go, it is OFFICIAL!

The word tenacity is one of my favorite words, if not my favorite word. I think the mere fact that I loved this word before I even knew what it meant speaks volumes. I'm not sure when it all started, but if I had to pick one defining moment, the first time the thought "This could be my favorite word, ever" crossed my mind was either in my late high school or early college years. Now you may be able to help pinpoint the exact moment, because anyone from my hometown might actually have "fallen" for this word around the same time I did. It all started with an advertisement campaign for St. John Fisher college, which I always saw advertised on the side of city buses. Now, I don't want to sell this memory short, these advertisements took up the entire body of the bus! Even the windows! I'm not sure who discovered a way to paint an advertisements on one side of a window, but have people be able to see out of the other, but I doubt I am jumping to any conclusions when I say that person had tenacity. The adds showed some very smart students along with the slogan, "St John Fischer, we teach tenacity". Simple, elegant, genius. From the point on, I took tenacity with me wherever I went.

It is much easier for me to pinpoint the exact moment the seed planted those many years ago flourished into the self realization that this is one of, if not the, favorite word I have ever read, spoken, or learned. It was about 10 minutes ago, when I looked up the meaning of this amazing word. I want to share this knowledge with you right now.

te·nac·i·ty (tə-nās'ĭ-tē)
n. The state or quality of being tenacious.

Are you kidding me, one amazing door leads to another, wait until you find out what tenacious means! [keep reading]

te·na·cious (tə-nā'shəs)
adj.
1. Holding or tending to hold persistently to something, such as a point of view.
2. Holding together firmly; cohesive: a tenacious material.
3. Clinging to another object or surface; adhesive: tenacious lint.
4. Tending to retain; retentive: a tenacious memory.

I could not come up with a better meaning for a better word.

Not being one to toot my own horn, I will simply quote what the FIFA 07 announcer said about me tonight when I was playing my buddy online...he said "They've got tenacity". Since I was the only one controlling my team, he meant "I have tenacity". Thank you, I agree.

Don't be freaked out if you start hearing me use this word more often. It only seems fitting that a word, used tonight to describe myself, should be used much more often.

Have a great night.
