Some talking points made up of the past few days, months, years:
-I'm still a big fan of warm sunny days. I will notify this blog if that ever changes and will continue to reiterate my enjoyment of said weather conditions as often as I think of it. Snow is OK, but lately all it does is give me a deeper appreciation of life without it.
-I'm still a big fan of thunderstorms, especially when it is warm enough to leave the windows open. Thunderstorms that come in after very warm sunny days are nice, they cool down everything and give you time to sit inside and recover from being out in the sun.
-Maybe I should have been a meteorologist if I like talking about the weather so much. Have you ever consciously avoided talking about the weather in a conversation because you don't want to fall back on the easiest topic ever to talk about? Does everyone think about that stuff? Levels of conversation deepness, that could be a fun blog topic, so good a whole section dedicated to why, thus far, I am not a fan of jQuery over pure JavaScript.
-The series finale of LOST was satisfying. I am looking forward to re-watching every episode with a piece of paper and pencil so I can document a lot of different things, with the hopes of obtaining complete clarity of what happened. "Complete Clarity"... sounds like something a monk dedicates their life pursuing.
-I think I would rather document those LOST episode on an iPad. I want an iPad, even more (I think) than the new iPhone released today. The thing is, the second generation iPad will likely have a front facing camera like todays iPhone, and video chatting on the iPad would be awesomeeeeeeee.
-One of the most appealing features of the new iPhone is the improved still/video camera. Two weeks ago I went to vegas with a ton of people for an inevitably amazing time. There was a small handful of times that I wished I had a point and shoot camera. I had my phone, and used it, but having at least a 5 megapixel camera plus HD video would have been very much more preferred; the new iPhone will provide that point and shoot functionality.
-The first picture was when a subset of us went on a desert dune buggy adventure. I don't throw the word [i]adventure[/i] around loosely. I use it in the context of defining a period of time when you were doing something really fun and really scary and you thought you might die.
-The second picture is a group shot from one of the nights. I was sporting the jersey from the US away kit that I purchased for the upcoming World Cup. I couldn't be more excited about the World Cup starting this weekend. It is like the excitement I get from the Olympics, times a ton. I am fortunate to have the perfect upcoming weekend lined up for the US v England game, a weekend too perfect for my words.
-The bachelorette is on in the background. Ridiculous yet oddly appealing. Anything to get me pumped up for my soccer game tonight at 9:55. Seriously, 9:55? I have a 7am meeting I need to be at, coming home all riled up and sweaty at 11p is not helping with my sleep needs.
-Speaking of sports, I might as well jinx my whole softball season right now, because we are currently 5-0. The best start ever from the most unlikely softball captain/coach/whatever ever. Worthy to note though, I did accomplish something last week that I rarely do, a home run during our latest victory. Yes, I find that very worthy to note.
And...I'm done.
Time for a quick game of FIFA 10 World Cup with Clarker13, one of my favorite inside activities ever.

I know I haven't written anything lately, but it's not because I don't care.
It's actually the opposite, I've been updating a ton of code on this site over the past few months and I hope to make a lot of the new stuff live soon.
Ugg to me for it taking this long, but a lot of the new stuff I write will be used in CT, making the process worthwhile but time consuming.
After this next round of updates are made to this site, I hope my blog posts are shorter but more on point to one topic/issue/idea/whatever and more frequent.
Until then, here is the run down:
-LOST is amazing, obviously. Last night's episode was one of my favorite in a while. I really enjoy the way the story line has focused on Jacob and the 'Man in Black' as well as the 'flash sideways' or whatever they are called. The latter is really enjoyable because we get to see these characters who we've spent the past handful of years learning about get put in situations that we can really appreciate, enjoy, and ponder. It's going to be sad to see LOST come to an end but I will always appreciate the years we had together.
[i]'Tis better to have loved and LOST than never to have loved at all [/i]
-Alfred Lord Tennyson
-The 2010 Winter Olympics have been awesome (minus the tragedy involving [a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nodar_Kumaritashvili" target="_blank"]Nodar Kumaritashvili[/a]). I always enjoy watching the obscure sports we rarely get exposed to on network tv. Thus far though, I am unsure what type of medal Vancouver would get for it's job hosting, we will have to judge once it's all said and done.
-iPad : I would like one when it comes out, but will hopefully be able to wait until one is released with a front facing camera. The ability to video chat on one of those things is just too appealing to not wait for (hopefully). I don't want to get into the details of my opinion on the new device at this time but I am excited to use one at sometime in the near future.

-sometimes, some things I am working on are in a sandbox that is live on this site, feel free to check it out sometime, but be warned that you will likely find many of the items boring and broken :)

the short list
December 30, 2009 - 16:38
- Christmas - Cooperstown - Cuse - web dev - LOST
Lets make some bullets of the bast few weeks, in no particular order:
-Christmas was great. My Dad's side of the family came over Christmas Eve, it's always great seeing my older and younger cousins. We spent Christmas Day with some family friends which was very nice. Both days were filled with a seemingly unlimited supply of amazing food. My mom is hands down the best cook I know.
-2010 is right around the corner! I am fortunate to have local plans with some local and out of town friends. I am glad I do not have to travel far this year to be with good friends.
-2009 was a good year. I accomplished a few personal goals that I am pleased about. I feel like I have a good grasp on what I would like to accomplish in 2010. Expect to hear much more chatter about CT, it is on 2010's front burner. Phase 1 of the project is so close to being done, I wouldn't be surprised if it was wrapped up by the end of the 1st quarter.
-Recently I've been spending many hours tightening up the blog code for this site. My progress is currently in the sandbox, ideally I can make the updates live in the next week or two. Please excuse any 'test' blog posts that I have made or will make, sometimes I need to post random things or extreme scenarios for testing purposes.
-LOST! The sixth and final season starts 2/2/10, I am incredibly excited. I've been re-watching the past seasons. I got through Season 3 two weeks ago and am almost done with Season 1, after which I will watch the remaining seasons in their respective orders.
-This year marked my third annual Christmas [post]card. Again, I was late starting them and I believe almost everyone on the list received theirs after Christmas, but I am happy I was able to send one out. Here is a picture of my setup for taking the picture I used for the card: [DIV_IMG style='float:none ; width:400px' ][IMG src='/up/s9blog_fileUpload/165.jpg' width='400' height='300' /][CAPTION]set up for 2009 Christmas Card cover [/CAPTION][/DIV_IMG]
-"The 'Cuse is in the House", OMG, OMG. The Orange have been having a great season thus far, I really hope they continue winning. I was able to watch them play my Alma Mater two weeks ago. It was a win win night, with 'Cuse winning and me getting to see a lot of old friends.
Alright. From the inside, out, see ya next year!

- Splash - LOST - GTA4 - pugs
sooo....about an hour ago I thought I submitted a blog entry, but I must have hit the wrong button or something...because it didn't post :-(
Lucky for you it didn't post! The last entry was a horrible disaster that started as a long ramble about nothing and ended as a long ramble about technology.
I will spare you the wordiness and the ramble and the technology...maybe.
-It is hard to recreate something when there was nothing to even begin with.
-This past three day weekend, it was way too cold to do much that involved leaving the house for extended periods of time. That, and the fact that I had previously signed up to "pug sit" those three nights gave me the perfect excuse to stay inside and play a decent amount of Grand Theft Auto 4 on Xbox 360 and to put in a good amount of work into this website.
-GTA4: Great game, I played it a lot when it came out but more recently it say behind newer releases such as Gears of War 2 and FIFA 09. I am currently on chapter 4 and hope to finish the game in the near future.
-sethdesantis.com : I don't know why I picked this web site as the focus of the vast majority of web efforts I was to make during this extended weekend, but I did. I've decided to start working on a "Splash 9" version of the site. This whole number increase in site version number is being made primarily due to the wide scope of files being affected during this upgrade. After a fairly long evaluation of where the site currently stands, I decided that for the most part, I am happy with the look of the home page, and therefore the majority of major changes will be behind the scenes. The current framework of the site primarily depends on page loads to get and send information, I am looking to implement an AJAX approach (currently only used in User Registration and User Control Panel) throughout the entire site (or at least a significant amount in the home page and totally for the Blog page). Besides generic page cleanup that I am doing on many unreleased files which are copies of current files, Splash 9 will use AJAX to handle all blog functions. Tackling this functionality is easier than it normally would have been due to the fact that it wasn't too long ago I wrote the code to does this exact thing, but for Cooperstown. One of the hurdles I was concerned about was reading/parsing blog posts written[saved] in one format when the format it is intended to expect is fairly different. My current blog posts (this one I write now) have all of the information saved as HTML (information like the tags to insert links or pictures, or make something bold and italic). The code I was going to use does not expect HTML tags, rather it expects custom tags that I decided on before hand, that get read by the code and then parsed into the HTML. I think the latter approach offers more long term flexibility with how your posts are displayed. Anyhow, the code wasn't made to use regular HTML tags but after only a few modification (which will end up serving as improvements to the current version used in CT), it was reading and displaying everything correctly. Soon I will be able to switch Blog entry Pages and will be able to use the one I created for CT, which is much much better than this one. I've added a little section of code already where I can enter the date that posts switched formats and then the correct styles will be used. All of the code that was previously written to handle non HTML tags is simply ignored.
Just think about how exciting my blog posts will be once I can enter them in my new, robust, Blog Entry Page!!! ha, PUKE, my posts will never be exciting :-(
At least not if I talk about that kind of stuff.
Let's see...
-"The Neighborhood Ball" Inauguration show was more entertaining than I previously anticipated.
-LOST starts tomorrow, I'm too excited to discuss.
-SU Basketball has been offering a lot of reasons to be happy lately, it could be an emotional roller coaster of a season.
-One of the Splash 9 improvements are bigger pictures with more accurate dimensions being displayed in blog posts, I've implemented that functionality already. Feel free to browse through old pictures in posts in the Blog section of the site, and feel free to enjoy this recent picture:
Good night.

- LOST
As I sit on my couch working on Cooperstown, I just noticed something pretty crazy in the LOST episode I'm re-watching...
It's season 4, episode 11 "Cabin Fever", about minute 7... Locke wakes up to the sound of chopping wood, this is where he meets Horace, the guy from the Dharma Initiative that has been dead for over a decade...anyhow, when I originally watched this episode, I saw like I'm sure everyone else did, the nose bleeds Horace is sometimes shown with, sometimes shown without. What I didn't notice is that when you first see Horace, without a nose bleed, he finishes chopping a tree and pushes it over...then a few seconds later, you see Horace with a nose bleed, pushing over the same tree...then he says "Hello There" to Locke...for the second time, then a few seconds later, the tree is there again (for the third time).
It's almost as if Horace is in some loop. I don't know, I just thought that was sort of exciting...almost as exciting as the new iPhone that will be out in 4 days, or as exciting as our dominant softball victory last evening. Good night.

- fleur-de-lis - Cooperstown - Apple TV - LOST
In response to a comment post from a special friend regarding the "eyes" graphic currently used in my You Fun control panel page, I would like to alleviate any discomfort the graphic might cause by showing the original picture I fooled around with to get it:
see, nothing to be bothered by, it is just a fleur-de-lis!
Anyone clicking the above link on fleur-de-lis will notice that the definition is being provided by a site other than Wikipedia. I signed up and received a free subscription to the online version of Encyclopedia Britannica ($69.95 p/yr value), so I can link to articles which will be fully accessible to anyone that clicks them. I'm interested to see how the content from the two sites varies and I'm excited to have a source available which would be accepted by anyone grading a college paper.
Well here I am in the middle of a random blog post, what else should I talk about as I lay in bed? Let's stick to dorky subjects, just to make you feel more comfortable.
I've been watching some past LOST episodes since last Thursdays amazing episode. I find the old ones worthy to re-re-watch with all of the new things we have learned, specifically all the new things we learned about Ben, who kind of went from dud to stud in my book. Now he's Mr "in control of the black smoke" "Jason Bourne like" dude... not bad for the guy Sawyer was calling Gizmo just a few episodes back. I noticed this evening as I was working on the computer while watching an episode that I've traded in working in my office on my iMac, with a iTunes window open in the corner; to working on my couch on the Air watching iTunes off of the Apple TV. I must say the latter is definitely more comfortable, leading to equal if not improved productivity and creativity. With the moral of the story being...offices should be replaced with living rooms.
A semi funny trend worth mentioning is the fact that almost every time my friend who I am working on Cooperstown with and I go out to dinner to layout plans for the site, without fail we have a more difficult time deciding how best to split and pay for the bill than we do with any other topic of conversation. From laying out the tables for the DB to discussing JavaScript errors, the biggest hurdle we have to overcome is dividing the check and tip. Now that is semi funny.
OK, well the clock just struck midnight so I'm gonna try to fall asleep. Good night.

- LOST - soccer - video
With the absence of a new LOST episode this evening, I finally got to goto one one of my indoor soccer games. This is the first session we've ever had games on Thursdays, and this is the first season I've ever committed to hosting a LOST party for every episode. This season of LOST has been great. Opposed to being overwhelmed by the many new doors of questions that have been opened this season, I have chosen to make peace with my eagerness and curiosity to figure out what everything means, and just take every amazing second in; without asking how, what, and why.
The funniest thing happened right at the end of our game tonight... we were up by 1 and there was less than a minute left... I was sucking wind big time and found myself being the only one between one of our opponents better players and our goalie... needless to say he absolutely broke me with a nice little move... being able to partially recover, I started to change my inertia and proceed in the direction I should have gone in the first place... being about 1 or 2 steps too far away to break up the shot, I was utterly useless...until... my jackass teammate, raised in the same city as I, pushed me down in front of the shot. It was amazing. Anyones best guess would be that I made an awkward kamikaze like dive, but he and I knew better. It worked, we regained control of the ball, and won the game. I look forward to hopefully returning the favor at some point during our quickly approaching softball season.
Besides that, not much to report. I've been doing a lot of preparing lately. Preparation for a wide variety of things. Things like trips, projects, and life. I'm currently in the yellow zone of preparation. I'm doing stuff like tanning, thinking, and producing. Tanning my body so I don't burn; thinking about things I'm doing, will do, and shouldn't do; producing results. Results like ideas and content. Theres really a whale of an idea we are working on right now. This might not be the money maker you read about on this thing called the internet, but it could be, and I find that just fascinating!
If fascinating is tonights designated word for cool things then I will use it to tag this following video. It was shot in the school and by the students my Dad is vice principal of.
Did you know that children of identical twins are considered half siblings because they share half the same genes?
Good night.
Splash 8.42 is now live.
February 24, 2008 - 12:38
- Splash - Photo Album Page - Blog Page - LOST
I dislike my tendency to not document more things that cross my mind and my life, in my blog. Substitute blog with any other method one would use to document/discuss whatever they choose, I think it is beneficial to have a place to do these things. It's interesting to think about the differences between an online blog and a personal diary. Both could serve the same purpose, but hopefully don't. I do not keep a diary. Every time I think the word diary I think of a girly book. Substitute diary with journal. I do not keep a journal, but I used to. Holy crazy, I would never document any of the stuff in those books in an online blog. Maybe I still do keep a journal and it's just been a long time since my last entry. Yes, no reason to close that book just yet, I revise my previous statement.
There is a bunch I would like to talk about, but I just don't know where to begin. Instead, I will do something I haven't done in like 7 months, I'm going to list some pending and outstanding web site features and issues.
-The current version of the splash page is technically 8.41, but I am now deeming it 8.42 to account for minor undocumented changes.
-Photo album page:
This page is to be replaced by my 3rd generation album page, which is currently on it's 10th revision (pic10.php). The page currently linked to via "Picture Album Beta" is pic8.php . The 2nd generation page was only linked to via a blog post, it was never more than a proof of concept page. The most relevant outstanding issues with pic10 include:
-IE not unhidding hidden divs after thumbnails are loaded and resized. This is a difficult issue that I believe will be resolved using proper image loading.
-the inability to honor $_GET[] variables, therefore being unable to jump to specific albums. This functionality will likely not be very difficult to implement.
-the page sometimes not displaying properly on it's initial load. This problem will likely be fixed when I work on handling $_GET variables. For now, a user refresh should do the trick.
-various minor styling and external linking issues. Not a major issue, nothing I am dreading to fix.
-The bottom line is that this page is a disaster, from a coding point of view. I implemented a ton of new techniques I had just learned, and it is painfully obvious. I learned new and better way of doing things on the fly, and implemented them as such. My plan is to implement/fix the above bullets without having to re-code the entire page. I am pleased with how the page works from a user point of view and will be happy if I can wrap it up and not worry about it ever again.
-Blog page:
This page was never intended to be used as long as it has been. It was coded in a weekend and and lacks a ton of features. I am saddened by the fact that it is was people get if the link to me via RSS feeds. The most relevant outstanding features and issues with this page include:
-The inability to view and post comments.
-The fact that all posts are displayed when the page is entered directly.
-The "tag cloud" could use some help.
-I like the look of the page. The images that are used to give it the feel of an actual book are pictures I painstakingly took of a blank page in one of my previously mentioned journal books; getting shots that would seamlessly repeat along the Y axis took some time.
-None of the above issues are difficult to implement. I have been reluctant to do any work on this page because I will likely re-build/code it from the ground up. I'm not sure how high of a priority this is at this time.
-Backend pages:
User control page and user log page:
-I am currently working on a project with a friend that will likely yield much improved backend pages (administrative pages not for users). Our project specifically deals with user logs but will likely prompt me to redo the majority of my backend pages.
-I am happy enough with my current Blog post entry page to not feel the need to work on it at all, at this time. I am currently running version 0.010 of this page.
Running parallel to the website in regards to projects I am dedicated to working on is Discomentary Volume One. I would say that this video project is my number one priority. With that said, I can't just bang it out with a ton of man hours, it's stuff that needs to be thought and re-thought about. I am close to reaching one milestone with Discomentary, once that is reached, I will begin a ton of footage editing and cutting.
I'm kind of tired right now so I'm not going to write much more.
This pic is from the other day. I'm holding the best rubber bouncy ball ever made. I got it at the NBA store in NYC. I went online to see if I could buy more but I couldn't find it listed in the online catalog. I instead bought a box of 50 bouncy balls from a store other than NBA.com . It was a mediocre alternative pick, but it was the best I could find. Yes, those balls join the new LOST Xbox 360 game and a new Bluetooth headset as items I purchased that night drunk.
From the inside, out, good night.

- After Effects - Lost
I have been struggling with a huge issue the past few days. Much to my relief and surprise it was suddenly resolved just a little while ago! For an unknown reason, a video project I've spent many many hours on would not open in After Effects. I was getting an absolutely horrible error message. For the record, it was:
After Effects error: not enough memory to initialize AGM ( 83 :: 8 )
I searched existing threads in several forums for help but could find very little. I started a thread in the Adobe Forums and was lucky enough to have one user with seemingly very solid knowledge on CS3 offer some tips. At that point, I was just super happy to describe the problem to someone who could potentially help. Before trying the users suggestion I updated some software and tried to open the project one more time...and here we are, super happy and relieved. The project contains an absolutely critical part of Discomentary Volume 1, having to redo it would have sucked...yet, it would have been nice I guess to fix a few fundamental things I wish I had done differently.
Here is a screen shot from when my nice little project opened up:
how exciting!
Almost equally as exciting was tonights episode of LOST, it was one of my favorite ones out of all 4 seasons. I really liked it when Sawyer called Ben, Gizmo. Ha. How about Hurley tricking Sayid into thinking he was left behind by the new Others, Lock's stupid posse? I wouldn't mind it one bit if Hurley found himself with Charlie...I guess we def know that won't be happening. How about Sayid working for Ben? That one will keep you thinking for a long time.
There is more about more but not now, good night.

- LOST - After Effects - Internet Traffic
-The Super Bowl was great, I'm really happy the Giants won, who would have thought? Take that Boston.
-I was just checking out some LOST related sites, there is a whole chain of "official" sites such as flyoceanicair.com and find815.com. The latter has some interesting clips that I will look to watch more of at some point. The first clip got me thinking, are any of the LOST people stranded on the island married to someone not on the plane, or at least away from a significant other parter kind of person? I can't think of anyone who has talked about missing a husband/wife bf/gf. Can you???
-My computer has been rendering a 1 minute 26 second clip for 7 hours and 7 minutes with 1 hour and 53 minutes remaining. I used my first expressions today in After Effects, they are pretty cool/powerful. The clip rendering will be my first chance to see how it all turned out. Worthy to note, I was previously getting a horrible error message. After combing the forums for a while, I learned the problem was caused by Apples recently released Quicktime 7.4 upgrade. I had to use a program called Pacifist to revert back to QT 7.3 before I could start this rendering, it seems to be working fine now.
-Forums are so amazing, I think the answer to almost ever question in the world can be found in a forum. Last week , I had a super specific tax question that I posted on the TurboTax community support forum; within 2 hours I had a great answer by one of their "Tax Pro" staff members. Here is a question I would like answered: What is the deal with all of these under water internet cables breaking? Why isn't anyone freaking out about this? Maybe the Fire sales from "Live Free or Die Hard" are still too fresh in my head, but the number of internet issues within the past few days seems to be a little suspicious at the least.
-OK, good night.

January 31, 2008 - 11:13
- LOST - homesick
I remember when I was 13 or 14 I went on a trip overseas for three weeks with like 30 kids my age. I remember having to hold back tears when we were saying bye to our families and boarding the plane in Syracuse. I remember those few moments when I was leaving being the only time of the whole trip of me feeling homesick (which is good, as a few years prior my Dad had to pick me up from a week long summer camp because I got homesick). I remember parts of those three weeks abroad so clearly, and I know that if I tried I could remember so much more...ahhh, but not here and not now. If there was ever an age of truly innocent mischief, then it was around that time; doing the things you weren't supposed to do wasn't like throwing a party and getting laid, it was like sneaking behind a barn and making out. Those three weeks were really amazing. I remember the first night I got home from that trip. I was laying down trying to fall asleep and I felt a homesick like feeling from being away from the 30 kids I had just spent the past three weeks with. It was a really weird feeling of just missing the idea of being in that big group doing everything together. Tonights episode of LOST made me remember all these things. The flash forwards are pretty insane, I think there is a decent chance all of the "flash backs" we saw in all the episodes except season 3's finale could be replaced with the "flash forwards". Really just crazy stuff. Almost as crazy as the executives at ABC being OK with themselves for putting so many commercials interruptions during the show... ha, I'll complain about any interruption during the best television show that I have ever seen. Good night.

- Tax Return - Family Guy - DRM - Lost - RSS
What a Federal evening it is. The State of the Union is on in the background (err, upper right hand corner) and I just finished my 2007 taxes. Hopefully that bling will be deposited by early next week so I can get my Mac Air, it's been wayyyy too long since I've had a viable laptop option in my life.
Let's see, what's going on? How about a State of the Seth Address? Let's limit it to the past few days opposed to the past year...let's also limit it too super cool topics such as web design, video games, and technology in general...ha, or not.
-I bought the Family Guy short movie, Blue Harvest the other day...I only got it because of the "Digital Copy", as I am still without an Xbox360, and therefore a DVD player. It's definitely more like a long episode then a movie, weighing in at a modest 48 minutes. You know what I just realized, I think the "Digital Copy" was downloaded from iTunes opposed to copied from the 2nd disc included in the box. That is kind of interesting. Hmmm, I might be wrong, because I don't know if that makes total sense, if it was downloaded, it must definitely have something to do with the DRM scheme used for this sort of thing. Either way, I really hope this idea catches on, asking consumers to buy multiple formats of the same content when it's so cheap to distribute a multi format version is practically a mortal sin, which as we all know sends people to hell.
-LOST THURSDAY, so excited. I can not wait to see what happens with that helicopter...remember Charlie saying that it "wasn't Penny" right before he finally died? Who is it then? What is going to happen? I don't even want to talk about this right now, I get way too excited.
-"It's not your 21st birthday unless you puke"...correct, ask my cousin who I took out for his 21st birthday this past Saturday.
-I created an RSS feed for my blog. It was pretty straight forward, as I created a PHP page to create an XML page of blog content. I still need to add the code to call this function to the "submit" for when I post a blog, but besides that, I think it works well. Please subscribe to my feed and tell me if there are any issues.
-Alright, theres more, a good amount more, but just not for you :-(
In closing, a happy birthday to the world greatest mom!
Good night.

- iTablet - LOST - Cloverfield
I'm currently watching a recording of American Gladiators. The remake of the old school show premiered tonight. I love this show. I remember when I was younger, my friends and I would turn a room in my house into the arena used for "Assault". We had those Nerf blasters which were pretty cool. I guess that room has been replaced with the arena Halo 3 offers. Some of my "off line" buddies have recently become "online buddies", it's so much more fun to be on a team of all people you know well, opposed to stray cats you meet online.
I've been following some Cloverfield hype via some viral videos. Let's see, big time special effects with tons of things blowing up? Check. This will be a movie I will not hate.
LOST January 31st. Can't wait, can't even begin to talk about it.
Macworld January 15th. Can wait, but super excited. I have been thinking about an iTablet since the summer, I wonder if it will come true. What else... iTune movie rental deal with at least Fox, and probably Disney? Check. New pro desktops? Very likely. New iPhone software 1.3? Check, if not sooner than 1/15. I wonder what else?
Last week, it was so cold out, that even with my heat JACKED UP, I couldn't get the temperature above 60 degrees! Uggg. This weekend, especially today, has been much warmer.
I picked up a new TV for my bedroom. I never really considered the high height of the dresser I was going to put it on in conjunction with the limited distance between me and, "it". Turns out, my viewing angle from laying in bed was below the viewing angle that would work. So I had to switch my night stand with that dresser, creating the perfect viewing angle, but eliminating the ability for me to reach the prefect night stand without getting out of bed. Not cool.
Another sequence for Discomentary Volume One is almost completed. Just special effects, not much content in this one.
OK, good night.

- Leopard - Gmail IMAP - Pando - Lost
I have been having a few issues with my computer, they have been minor yet annoying. It seems that I have to enter my "keychain" password before I start and exit most applications, worthy to note, I was experiencing issues with "keychain" prior to upgrading to Leopard, so I am unsure if the new OS is to blame. Issues I have noticed since the upgrade include many instance of "finder" crashing, as well as occasional infinite freezes in many of my Adobe applications. None of the above problems have been more annoying than a screwed up fast food breakfast order, but they were worth documenting.
Every issue I am currently having with the Operating System is completely overshadowed with the upgrade in quality of life IMAP support in Gmail has given me. Prior to this offering by Google, every email I received showed up as a new email on the three interfaces I regularly use to check/send email (Apple Mail, iPhone Mail, and online), and they would stay as "unread" until I opened it in that interface. Now, whenever I check an email in one place, it's status is updated everywhere else at their next respective syncs. This all leads to huge improvements in personal efficiency.
Someone sent me some pretty big files for me to download via an application I've never heard of before, Pando. I am currently downloading 2 500+ mb files, this could be a good alternate to sending some stuff via data CD.
I have the LOST episode "Exodus Part 2" playing, I really can't wait for the new season to start February.
OK, that's all I got for you, good night and happy Halloween .

- LOST - DVR - Softball - astrics
I was able to re-watch the majority of LOST season one over the weekend, it is amazing how much you pick up the second time around. Some things I had not really thought about in a while include: the fact that the palm-reader psychic dude most likely told Claire to get on flight 815, knowing that it was going to crash; the fact that Jack's dad talked about the sacrifices made in Jacks life so he (Jack) could save thousands of lives (as a doctor I'm assuming by the context of the conversation I'm referencing);the fact that Walt simply has some crazy, crazy powers, like controlling the weather, creating animals, etc; and the fact that almost everyone see's what would seem to be a hallucination but other people around them usually confirm seeing (or hearing) it as well. There is so much more, but I can't even get into it.
I DVR'd Heroes tonight, very excited to watch that. Is there a verb for DVR'd? I guess to be proper, I digital video recorded it.
I've linked to my most recent version of the new Photo Album page. The link is on the right column of the main page. It is still beta, it only works well in Firefox, the play button doesn't work, if you log into this site, from the picture page, you will have to click refresh...besides that, enjoy...ha. Still some house cleaning left on that project. Anyone using Firefox, I am very interested in detailed feedback. Feel free to tell me everything, including how long different albums take to load.
I hit a homerun over the fence tonight during our softball game. This is noteworthy, a) due to my previously discussed lack of softball/baseball experience and b) my last, and only other, one wasn't in a park with a fence so I felt like it had to go in the books with an astric.
I am going to bed*
* - after a game or two of Halo 3**

random nothingness.
May 30, 2007 - 9:38
- random - Shrek 3 - Ira Hayes - LOST
I am very much in content at this exact moment. For the first time in a few weeks I am not rushing to get work done on the new site. I have a head full of issues and pending improvements that are way overdue, but the site, although sometimes cumbersome does allow some of the very basic tasks I set forth to accomplish.
Since I did not have the desire to blog about nothingness while I had a whole bunch of alotness to work on, there are many topics that I usually like to discuss which have recently been the subject to some negligence on my part. In the name of sanity, decency, and pure logistics; I will not attempt to write about every random nothingness thought I have had over the past few weeks. Instead, I will spread things out a bit...when the well gets dry, maybe I'll dip into some crazy stories, like HOW CHARLIE DIED IN LOST! YESSSSSSS!!!!!.
How funny is that. I start talking about some "crazy" stories I am saving in my back pocket, and as an example, I start talking about a TV show. Just the other week, a girl on my softball team is like, "You must watch a lot of TV"...I was like, "Ummm, OK, whatever that means"...and then she is like, "Well you always write about them in your team emails". OK, you got me. But ladies and gentleman of the jury, let's put things into context here. First off, for the record, I do not watch a ton of TV, I just REALLY enjoy the few shows I watch, and I try to share this enjoyment with those around me. LOST, Office, Heroes, ROME, Entourage...yes, I like these TV shows, I like them a lot...yes I am American. What good American wouldn't enjoy the shows I just named? None I know. You see, the biggest factor in the reason behind why I talked about LOST so much in my weekly coaches email to the softball team is that the majority of our games have been on Thursday...hence my email went out on Wednesday...hence my brain was only thinking about that nights episode. Since everyone on my team is American, I assumed everyone else was thinking the same thing. Finally, the only other example of references I made to television shows was a comment I made about a team who's name was "Gym Class Heroes" and the fact that they were likely frauds, since I knew what real Heroes are capable of and doubted that I would see anything cool when we played them. And you wanna know something? NOT ONCE during that game did ANYONE do ANYTHING even close to what I see on NBC's Heroes...thus my allegation of fraud, thus the fact that said allegation was correct. People really just need to sit back and let me do the driving sometimes.
I saw "Shrek 3" tonight...I liked it a lot. It followed the general feel and flow of the previous two installments of being a satire on childhood fairy tails, and thus left this kid satisfied.
I saw "Flags of Our Fathers" the other day. I enjoyed that one a lot too. I have always enjoyed the Johny Cash song about Ira Hayes, and now I know a little bit more about him...as well as Iwo Jima.
I saw some really crazy stuff over the extended Memorial Weekend we are all still recovering from, but this is neither the venue nor audience for such stories.
In closing, I leave you with a cute little picture of Pugsley. I have a stock collection of Pugsley pictures to last me a lifetime, and he reminds me of the baby Shreks in the movie.
From the inside, out, good night.
Blaine World!
May 2, 2007 - 7:11
- David Blaine - Christopher Walken - LOST - Boot Camp
There are a few handful of people who have heard the phrase "Blaine World" more than a few times. We can't get into it's origins or even it's meaning, but we can leave it at the fact that it can mean a whole lot or a whole lot of nothing. The reason I bring it up because I got s little dose of my own "Blaine World" this past Saturday evening while hanging out with a some people at a little birthday party I was attending.
So I'm sitting there on a bar stool in the living room and a girl out of no-where says to myself and some people I was talking to, "Do you know who David Blaine is?". I was like, "Umm, duh, Blaine World, he's only like the coolest half man half alien magician alive". Then she started talking about some You Tube videos of a dude impersonating David Blaine, we proceeded to the computer to check out said video, and to make an uninteresting story short, David Blaine came up out of nowhere in the middle of an otherwise normal evening...
So the night continues on, I'm hiding the fact that I am already a tad shaken by the fact that someone was just talking about David Blaine, when out of no where I get floored with question almost as striking as the first! Another girl, again out of no where, asks me point blank if I like Christopher Walken (my other favorite famous person!). I was like "UMMM, DUHHH, who doesn't like the coolest actor in Hollywood?". Then she went on about how awesome he was as I just sat there in awe. Not in awe over the fact that someone else recognizes the amazing talents of C'dubs, but the fact that within two hours, two random people inquired about two other random people that I hold so highly. Crazy stuff, which I guess can only lead us to say one thing with absolute certainty, It is a Blaine World. :-)
A few quick talking points:
-LOST: tonight, can't wait!
-Heroes: I didn't watch this weeks episode yet...I did purchase the 'Season Pass" on iTunes for this show and "the Office", so I plan on getting caught up very shortly.
-The Apple guy came over today, the iMac is all set and running great!
-I am currently downloading Boot Camp, as my copy of Vista arrived today! I look to really only fool around with the new OS and hopefully be able to fire up a few games...I will let you know how it goes!
And in closing, I leave you with a tasteless picture a friend sent to me Sunday morning...I think it is a reenactment of him and his roommates....
From the inside out, good night!
One world, one language, one game
April 25, 2007 - 8:16
- Rambling - LOST - Adobe
Greeting from the inside. Things have been a little busy lately. Not a bad busy, but a good busy. Busy like "I'm busy doing something I don't mind doing" busy. I can't really put my finger on what exactly I have been busy with, but I feel like some stuff has gotten accomplished and that's not usually a bad thing... unless you are accomplishing a task that wouldn't generally be consider good, which I wasn't, so in this case, like practically all others cases regarding myself, the product of all my busyness has been good.
All this talk about what I have been busy with has gotten me busy thinking about what I was actually doing this past week. Why don't you and I sit down and try to pinpoint a few exciting highlights, something for the record, just to show I wasn't busy laying in bed the whole time thinking about a new layout for my photo albums page.
-Let's start with Wednesday April 18th. Just the name "Wednesday" should be a HUGE clue about that days highlight, and if you can't figure it out, then you need to get LOST! So much has happened over the past few episodes my brain goes into overload just recapping the notable highlights. Two things that come to my immediate recollection is how surprised I was the second I learned Juliette was playing Jack, and secondly, how excited I was when I saw Charlie get an arrow to the jugular! I thought we had that little heroin freak, but it was just a tease... his time is coming up though, and once it does, the number of British accents on the show will be brought down to an acceptable number. [HAHA, sometimes I just like picking on something, and in this case it is foreign accents, but let it be known, I actually enjoy a good British accent...and while we are on the topic, I think it is worthy to note I spent a lot of time the past week saying "Welcome to the Rock" in a Sean Connery Scottish accent...I don't know why I laugh every time I say it, but I do, look for an audio clip in an upcoming blog post!] Anyways, LOST is awesome and I can't wait for tonights episode!
-The following day, as if my week couldn't get any better, I was the recipient of a visit from a good college buddy. Anyone who knows this man of many names would not find it surprising to hear that he rolled up to my place with a freakin' canoe tied to the roof of his buddies truck! The Barbarian was certainly rolling in style as he made his way to what I'm sure was an exciting camping trip with his fellow co worker and friend. They crashed at my place, another friend came over, and we put the new ping pong table through it's first of many beer pong sessions. Needless to say, the only thing keeping me alive the next day was the AMAZING weather which thankfully lasted the entire weekend. Oh, before I forget, here is a little picture of that evening:
-Ok, ok, weekend, weekend, what did I do? One thing I did was drop off and later picked up my new iMac from the Apple Store. Oh, how the saga with this new computer has been long and dreary. I am saddened to report that we still are not in the clear, as YET ANOTHER problem has arisen. This time, Apple is sending over a tech to my house to resolve this minor yet still annoying problem. If it wasn't for the sheer power and beauty of the monster I type this blog post on I would be incredibly angry... but the fact that Apple is simply the only choice I can see when buying a new machine and the good customer service I have received from their tech support people continues to keep me steadily in the Apple camp with regards to what kind of computer people should buy.
-What else, what else...yes, I remember some more! My good old fellow alum computer science friend who lives just a hop skip and jump away made some delicious burgers with chopped onions and Montreal seasoning...such burgers where the perfect reason to get the good old grill refilled, cleaned, and fired up. I will have to show you a picture of this grill someday. When good old lumBARDo and I purchased all the materials for the deck which was built last year [long, yet exciting story for another rainy day], the idea of buying a much more expensive grill then we actually needed did not seem like a bad idea, especially when compared to all the much worse ideas we had around that time, and as it turned out, none of our ideas ever turned out to be bad, including the grill, because the only item in the whole city of Albany more power full is this computer!
-Speaking of lumBARDo, I forgot that this past week the transfer of the home of the man who writes this blog was completed. Sign, seal, and deliver that check because I am now the sole owner of my humble little three family house..can you give me a holla? holla. thank you.
-What else is worthy to note...hmmm... I re-seeded the back yard. I find that kind of thing kinda fun...maybe not as fun as watching a TV show that I kinda like, but still better than having a cold. Actually, re seeding the grass is fun, because I get to use the "spreader" which is always kind of fun to use, but hauling a big pile of cement someone dumped along one of our fences was not very fun, hence my prior analogy.
-I made the first series of purchases for the new Adobe CS 3 suite... I picked up only Dreamweaver, as the suite containing the video editing tools I desire has yet to be released. It is very hard to comprehend how a 5 minute download cost me more than a decked out Xbox 360. I think there should be a full version available at half price for people converting from a "cracked" free version to the legitimate version [not that I am attesting to fall under such a category].
-OK, let's rap this up I gotta get some food soon and prepare for LOST. I enjoyed a nice bike ride. I enjoyed kicking the soccer ball around the front steps, but enjoyed something that happened during kicking the ball around much, much more, someone out there will get this, "One world, one language, one game"...it's from the '98 WC and hardly relates to what I'm not speaking about but still reminds me of it. The birds are eating the grass seed, yet I am unsure if it is at a rate that will affect my efforts of cultivating a fuller yard. Some very cool stuff happened at the "day job". Our season opening softball game, and my debut as an amateur coach, was unfortunately delayed this evening due to rain..and...here we are, back to right now. I hope you enjoyed reminiscing about my past week. I am sure that there are a few details that I may or may not have left out on purpose, but if I was living in a glass house, what would be so exciting about being on the inside of it?
From the inside of that house out, good night and have fun.
some downtime :-(
April 11, 2007 - 10:44
- downtime - LOST
briefly:
-I just got back from the movie 300... very cool movie.
-my my computer crashed bigged time...yes, the Mac, yes again...long story short, I picked up a 250gb external hard drive while at the mall and am currently backing up a bunch of files. I'll have to pick up some DL DVDs tomorrow for about 50 more gigs, then a fresh re-install. The Apple support guy said it could be a hardware issue, but I ran a hardware diagnostic program cleanly, without detecting an problems. I'll get to the bottom of it and let ya know...I'm sure you are just so interested.
-sooo...all projects will be put on hold for a few days
-LOST is currently on, I had to DVR it due to the movie...I think I'll wait until tomorrow to watch it...something to pass the time as I back up everything I've done in the past month and a half.
sorry that wasn't very exciting, but we have to work hard to play hard... don't worry, once I'm up an running again, the blog posts will surely get much more exciting....righhht :-)
good night...and don't tell me about LOST tomorrow!
Joost anyone?
April 5, 2007 - 6:50
- Joost - Lost
Hello out there. I just downloaded a pretty cool program that just became available for Mac. [WARNING: my idea of cool is likely much cooler than yours]. It's an Internet TV application called Joost. I heard about it about a month ago and have been getting tidbits of info here and there since. I didn't really know much about Internet TV or IP TV( which may or may not be the same thing, I don't actually know yet). I did know that bad ideas such as Net Neutrality would threaten the idea of high speed content being delivered to someones computer without paying a premium price, therefore directly affecting services like this. So my curiosity about this new idea prompted me to sign up for an email alert from Joost for when a Mac version of the software becomes available, an email I got today. So I downloaded it a little while ago and gave it a whirl. My initial impression is that this application has a ton of potential.I have recently been pricing small LCD's for the office, as sometimes when working on projects I prefer to have a TV on opposed to music. Something like Joost can easily solve that problem while at the same time, giving me the convenience to pick whatever shows I want. The current TV lineup includes channels such as MTV, National Geographic,Soccer Network, Comedy Central, and a bunch of other stray cat channels. The biggest annoyance thus far is the lag. It seems to have a hard time going for a respectable amount of time before "lagging up" for a few seconds. Still, it is free, it is beta, and it's from the people that brought us Skype. I am happy, and will continue to try it out. If you are interested in trying it out, follow the following link :-)
Ok...now onto LOST[spoiler]: very briefly, I really enjoyed last nights episode. I HATED Hurley for almost the entire episode, just the though of him telling Sawyer he might have to bounce from the group! Luckily, we saw what the end motive was. In regards to the "black smoke"...I think that is very cool, and I have NO idea what it is! (maybe it is the death gate keepers to purgatory, hell, and heaven!) One more thing, for the record and maybe for other witnesses to confirm, remember last weeks episode...at the end, Ben shows Locke his father in the closet...well I thought during a flashback to the airport, Nicki and Pallo (sp?) where sitting down at a table, then comes in Boone and his hot sister who's name escapes me at this moment were fighting...Nicki and Pallo where like "let's never let that happen to us...blah blah" well I think the camera panned right for a second, and showed Lockes father. I'm sure people on all the Lost blogs and websites are already ontop of this...but I don't visit those sites all that much, as they seem to be even a little crazier about the show than myself. OK, one more thing... I really liked last weeks episode. The whole, counting backwards in time was cool, and it was GREAT to see the two most annoying characters (yes, more so than even Charlie) get buried alive.
And in closing, I leave you with a nice little screen shot / shout out from a little iChat last night between some good friends.
From the inside, out, take care.
get LOST
March 28, 2007 - 9:20
- LOST - Adobe CS - Rambling
Ha..I like the title of this blog. I'm very excited for tonights episode...someone is going to die, hopefully it's Charlie! Now that was mean. He's an OK fella, but like I have previously stated, there is only enough room for Desmond and Clair's foreign accents, Charlie just didn't make the cut.
I have had a long day, which almost wasn't long enough, because I almost overslept! I obviously hold no fault in this mishap, as the alarm surely set itself to 1hr snooze when it went off at 5am. Stupid alarm. Luckily, my brains internal clock woke me up with just enough time to get ready in a manor which did not require me to rush. I hate having to rush in the morning, yet I do sometimes find myself pushing the envelope on what is and is not an appropriate amount of time to leave oneself to properly get ready in the morning. Sleeping just feels so good. Long story short, I caught the 6:55am train to the city, the 4:40pm home, and enjoyed a warm day in Brooklyn with some nice people.
Few quick bulletins before grabbing a bite to eat and digging in for Charlie's last episode:
-The VHS to DVD project officially started last night. I am very amazed with how quickly and smoothly things went from initial setup, to import, to conversion, to burn. One immediate thing that needs to be remedied is the fact that the audio is only 1 channel. I am debating between a hardware and software fix. The hardware fix is the lazy approach, using a component cable splitter for both audio "in's", since the VCR I am using is mono (which by the way does not matter, since i am converting old school VHS home videos that def wern't recorded in stereo). The software fix is using one of the many programs in my repertoire to just duplicate the one channel (left) to the other (right). I'm sure you are as excited as I am to find out witch path I take in this NAIL BITING moment, so I will make sure to keep you posted!
-ADOBE CS 3 - OK, another geek bulletin (I do them so you feel more comfortable): Adobe officially announced their new software suite. It is obviously awesome, but what took me by surprise was that they are releasing new versions of Premiere and After Effects. MMMMM.... powerful video software...the things possible with those two programs are actually endless. I was lucky enough to go through a 1 years stint with them on an old Sony Viao I used to rock, I think the coolest things I have ever done geek wise were with those programs. Cool doesn't actually mean anything, considering what the kids are watching and wearing now a days, but if it's the eye candy you want, it's the eye candy I will work on. So, the bottom line, is that the suite I have deemed a necessity opposed to a luxury is $1600+ and it doesn't even come with Dream Weaver... so I will be saving my pennies until it's release date. The things I do for you.
Ugggg....I typed to long and am now forced to eat something in my house. From the inside, out, good night.
oh...ps...I started working on a new page called "Image Viewer"...I will let you guess it's purpose. Lessons learned during it's development will surely improve image display throughout the entire site! and you thought you couldn't be any more excited on a Wednesday night!
as the dust settles...
March 22, 2007 - 7:20
- Splash 8 - Discomentary - Rome - LOST
After about 2 weeks of site downtime, I am happy to report that the war against my old domain registrar has ended. I have emerged victorious. Due to the fact that I have deemed this website "The Official Homepage of Seth DeSantis", the official public record of everything me, I periodically need to blog about topics few would find interesting. This is one of those times. In the future, you likely will not get such a bold warning, instead, you will have to learn to identify a potentially boring topic, and skip it on your own. However be warned, as with this responsibility comes great risk, failure to correctly identify which topics are truly "un-interesting" will result in you missing out a potentially life changing idea. Proceed with caution.
My adventure through the process of changing registrars began on Sunday, February 18th, of this year. My reason for changing the registrar that has hosted this prestigious site since 2003 was simple; I was unable to upload files via PHP from the browser to my server, the fundamental step I needed to accomplish in order to proceed with various functions I will be writing to do an assortment of things but most importantly uploading pictures to this blog via the blog editor page I wrote a few months back. I also liked the idea of having all of my sites hosted and registered with one company. I began using godaddy.com about a year ago, as my portfolio of domain names and hosting packages grew, so did my confidence in their ability to provide long-term/reliable service to my sites. I initially attributed the problems I was having with my old registrar, registerfly.com , to the fact that they would likely hide the option to transfer your domain name to another company deep within user options. As I searched and searched, I realized I needed some help, so I started a support ticket with registerfly. After a week of it going unanswered I wrote a follow up to my ticket, inquiring if anyone was going to help me. No one responded, another weeks goes by, so I start exploring their support section again. This time, I found a letter from a third party administrator stating registerfly has been experiencing some major problems, and they are working around the clock to answer pending support tickets and apply account changes. About another two weeks go by, weeks filled with tons of calls that rang to busy with registerfly and a handful of calls made to godaddy. Even though the problem wasn't with godaddy, I figured it wouldn't hurt to run the problem by them for any possible advice. It turned out that their tech support staff had been getting emails about issues with registerfly and possible solutions to remedy them. After a few different conversations with godaddy, it was determined the only solution was for me to email ICANN and ask for their intervention. As I wrote an email to the organization in charge of "the internet", I started to have doubts. I am just one humble man with a humble site, who is ever going to read this email within the next decade, and when they do, what are they possibly going to do? Much to my delight, I received a personalized response the next day. The person told me that if the problem wasn't resolved within the next 2 business days, to email her back. Surely enough, 2 business days later, I get an automated email from godaddy stating that the transfer has completed. Still having doubts, I typed in sethdesantis.com and the parking page changed from the horrible advertisements the rats at registerfly had put up, to the pleasant yet dull godaddy "Oops" page. The internet goddess who responded to my email performed some crazy ICANN magic and saved the day. Now here we are, chatting about the one month drama that shook life as I know it.
Sooo...here we are, I have a ton of ideas and a site with a ton of problems. Sure, you don't see the problems, you look at my site every day and put it up there with greats such as ESPN.com, FOXNEWS.com, DIGG.COM, and APPLE.com...but you don't see what I see. I have folders upon folders of files filled with pages that will never again be included. Pages of functions who's glory days are just a thing of the past. My unwillingness to perform mandatory housekeeping on my root directory has really done a job on my ability to efficiently add and update this site. If you saw what I saw, you would be so disgusted, you would likely never speak to me again.
So, I got the site back 2 days ago. Primarily due to a softball coaches meeting that took 2 and a half hours too long, I have only been able to get the site to it's "previous state" (with the exception of a new header image indicating things to come...). I have re-transferred all of the MySQL databases from the old host to this one. I have updated all of (I think) the code to access my new databases. This adventure through tons of different included files spread in many different folders has confirmed that it is near time to start re-writing the site from the bottom up. Luckily though, few to none of the major functions that make up the behind the scenes backbone of this site will need to be re-written, rather, I need to re-write the pages that call these functions...which can actually be considered fun to people as dorky as myself. With all the nasty code out of the way, I can focus more on the aesthetic aspects of the site, something the kids like to call "the eye candy". One would think that after painting such a horrible picture of the "state of the site" this re-writing would be for my first priority. Well that one would be wrong. I have WAY too many things I need to do before I can even consider aesthetics!
-Did you know users can't change their passwords, they can't even choose nicknames!
-Did you know that there is an album in my photo albums with MULTIPLE vertical pictures, being displayed horizontally!
-Did you know that all of my blog posts have Tags, yet there is no where to play with these Tags?
This is just a sampling of countless flaws of this site. These are the reasons I can't write an email to everyone I know to tell them to check it out. It would be like inviting the world over to my house after a Christmas Party! Come on, we can get crazy, but let's not be stupid here.
In closing of this chapter, filled of despair with just a hint of hope, I ask everyone to calm down and take a deep breath. This site will prevail. The functions will get written and the directory will get cleaned up. Someday you, the modest user may be able to upload your very own content! Far fetched you mumble to yourself, but you don't see what i see. I am sitting in a pretty sick office with a lot of really cool new equipment. I feel very confident that this site will progress nicely over the next few weeks, months, and years.
**Almost done with "un-interesting" talk...
The period of site downtime actually came at a rather convenient time. I have had the pleasure of working on a few other projects for some other people. It has been mostly web sites, but I did get to work on some video and audio stuff. I am very excited about really digging deep into some video projects in the near future. I have thus far transferred 8 DV Camcorder tapes to the computer. While it is unfortunate that some of the best footage is "too good" to ever be made public, I do have a few second here and there of my friends doing funny things, that wouldn't get anyone arrested, fired, or divorced. Look for Discomentary Volume 1 to hit shelves within the next few months.
**OK, done, please start reading again...
-ROME: I am saddened to say that one of the best television series ever created has only 1 episode left. This Sunday it will all come to an end. I would like to propose that rather than mourn the loss of such a good gladiator themed drama, with tons of naked people having sex and killing each other, we celebrate the good memories we have been provided with over the past few seasons.
-LOST: It continues to proceed strongly. It appears the two weeks of weak episodes a little while back was a fluke. The story line is strong and my curiosity is peaked.
-In conclusion, I would like to once again welcome everyone back to the site. I look forward to writing more about nothing for a very long time to come. From the inside, out, good night.
almost 2 weeks later...

This is the first blog post from my office. The new iMac arrived today, and the data transfer between my old Mac Book Pro and this new monster concluded approxamitely 10 minutes ago. Needless to say, I am very excited about checking out everything this machine can do.
First thoughts: -it appears all my old programs transferred great. I was wondering if I was going to have to reinstall any of the Adobe CS programs, but they appear to be working much faster than ever.
-24 inches is a ton of workspace, it's going to take a little getting used to.
...and that's it! like I said, I just started using it about 10 minutes ago!
Second Thoughts: -AWESOME win today by SU vs uconn in the first round of the Big East tournament. I'm very excited for the rest of this toruny and then Selection Sunday.
-LOST: kind of slow the past 2 episodes. Honestly, when I see Hurley and Charlie in a van together, all I hope for is that black smoke to come and eat them. They just aren't even close to my favorite characters...however, I must say, I like them a ton more than the new characters the show is trying to introduce, who is that random dude and stray chick? Where were they the first few months after the crash? Well enough complaining about my favorite TV show...I am sure we will all be delighted in just under an hour when we get to see tonights episode!
-Rome: AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME... last weeks episode was great.
-Heroes: I've never mentioned NBC's "Heroes", which is a shame, because it is a very clever series. I just got all caught up last night via DVR. It takes the mutant idea from X-Men but adds an entirely fresh plot...can't go wrong there.
And in closing... -I am about to wage war on my current domain name registrar, I have been laying low over the past two weeks, just waiting for everything to be complete with the office and now I am really, really mad at the fact that I can not pursue my efforts at uploading files via PHP because I can't get this domain transfer complete.
-but on a good note, I am VERY excited about all of the things I will be working on in the very near future. I have a few projects I am working on and there is a lot I have planned for this site.
Good night and enjoy LOST!

Greetings from inside the "Bubble". I'm on a top secret mission which took me to the Souther Tier, so please understand my lack of communication to people who live in these parts. I took the train into Rochester yesterday, but was only there for about an hour before making the trip out here (hence why I didn't get in touch with my pals in the Roch-cha-cha...next time for sure).
For anyone who hasn't made it to the "Bubble" in a few years, I am pleased to report that the old stomping grounds are in good shape. The dinning hall went over a complete face lift and it is looking pretty sharp. I got to check out Dev, which brought back some crazy, albeit blurry, memories of the two summers I spent living there when I was doing web development for the universities different departments. I checked out the latest edition of the BV... a little disappointed to read about a very disturbing "hit and run" incident which involved some current (likely now ex) students; but we certainly won't let a few bad apples ruin this bunch. I was very fortunate to run into some friars I was close with when I was a student, as well as a few others who are still around campus. I was able to get some e-mail addresses, and will look to get/stay in touch from now on.
What else...what else, OK, I will jump right into a few talking points:
-LOST: Great episode. We saw Jack being put into the bear cages formally occupied by Sawyer and Kate. While he was there, he was visited by one of the stewardess from flight 815, who was with a bunch of children (almost certainly the children previous abducted by the Others). They were looking at Jack as if he was actually an animal on exhibit...pretty weird. We also saw Jack coming through big time for Julie. He promises to help Ben's infected stitches, if Ben agrees to intervene with the trial Julie was put on for when she asked Jack to kill Ben when he was "under the knife". Ben tries telling Jack that Julie does not care about him (Jack), but I'm not so sure about this. We saw some flashbacks of Julie's life prior to being put on the island, she seemed like a decent person to me there, so I am not convinced she doesn't care about Jack, or at least that she is incapable of caring about him. It was a nice "setup" episode, and I am looking forward to next weeks episode, where we will likely see some more drama regarding Desmond's fortune telling prediction that Charlies death is eminent (sorry Charlie, but you are a little to possessive over Clair for me to be sad about your upcoming demise).
-ROME: AWESOME episode. Octavian and Mark Antony destroyed Brutus, which is great. Worthy to note, Brutus finally "manned up", I was impressed with his decision to fight the newly combined forces even though he was outnumbered, as well as his knowingly futile decision to fight the approaching troops, 1 V all. He at least died with some honor, which seems to be a big deal to all those people back in the day. Poor Pullo is sad that all this fighting is going on with out his sword, which is great, he is definitely one of my favorite characters. On a sad note, no new Rome episode this week, likely due to the Oscars.
-my office: Two exciting developments on this front: A) my office furniture is being deliver Monday morning, which is long overdue. B) I finally ordered my new computer. It was a very difficult decision, but one that could not wait another day. There are so many rumors that a new Mac Pro desktop is underway, and that Os X Leopard is close to being released; I was trying to wait for one of these 2 things to happen before my purchase, but I just couldn't put it off any further, I have too many projects pending this much needed hardware upgrade. I decided on getting the iMac 24'' with 2 gigs RAM, upgraded video card to 256 mb, 500 gig HD. This is going to be my "in between" computer, just like this is my "in between" office. They are "in between" me having nothing, and me having a ton of money to get super decked out equipment. This computer will very likely be in use for no longer than 2 years, so not going with a Mac Pro seemed like the appropriate decision. I'm going to run Vista on the side, likely via Boot Camp opposed to virtualization, and it will only be to fool around with it and possibly for a few PC only apps. I tell you what I would really like to run in Vista, but likely won't be allowed to, is IE 6. I feel confident that my site displays properly in IE 7, but I know of issues with IE 6, so debugging would be made much easier with the ability to easily look at the problems in IE 6 (opposed to the way I do it now, I look at the problem at work, take a screen shot, email it to myself, and later, try to debug the display issue, just to see if it worked the next day, when I can use IE 6 again at work). I'm excited to test out the speed of the new Airport base station I bought, using draft N specs, I was doing some reading on the way draft n networks work, and saw where any device using G or B, will drop the whole network to that lower speed. I am curious to do some R&D on this exact topic, as the wireless printer I bought as well as this laptop, both use G. It is my understanding that the network only drops to the lower speed when the G or B devices are being used, if that is the case, then it shouldn't be too much of an issue, we will see what we will see! All of the office equipment was appropriately purchased under the new business I set up a few months ago, Disco Development. Appropriate because we are working on some crazy stuff here people, PHP, MySQL, etc... this isn't a game room, it's an OFFICE! I am worried that I will actually make the decision to purchase the upcoming Adobe CS 3 suite, in which case, getting a tax break on such a big purchase will definitely be welcomed!
-Site Hosting: well, ignore my previous post about not signing in, signing up, or posting comments... The transition from one domain registrar to another is not a smooth as it should be. My current domain registrar is not being very cooperative during this transaction. I currently have a "support ticket", inquiring why they have yet to give me my authorization code to finalize this transfer, but it has not been answered yet. Due to this lag in transfers, I will certainly make another transfer of the current DB to the new one, once everything is set. I will keep everyone posted.
-Judge Larry: has anyone else been watching the ongoing Anna Nicole Smith trials? The Florida court has been very entertaining. From the judge doing much of the interrogations to the unusual speakerphone conversation with the coroner, this trial has been interesting, to say the least.
-The Office: I watched a lot of episodes from season 2 last night...soooo funny, I can't even get into it now!
OK, that's all I got right now, from inside the bubble, out, have a good day.
the Office

- Lost - office
I would have to say that NBC's "The Office" is one, if not the, funniest series I have ever watched. The things that happen are so outrageous, yet they still seem to remain in the realm of scenarios that you could almost see happening in a real office. I can't get enough of the way Jim messes with Dwight, as well as the way Michael is just living in his own world. My hat's off to the writers. I almost want to rent the BBC version, but I get just enough British accent in LOST (I know Desmond [Scottish] and Claire [Australian] don't have British accents, but for my TV viewing purposes, I can take the liberty of generalizing them all as "British")
In regard to LOST, I really enjoyed last nights episode. I'm going to jump right into what I think. There are many different hypothesises out there about what exactly is going on in LOST. I have yet to come up with any conclusions that I would bet on. One hypothesis that a coworker of mine told me a while back was that the island could be like purgatory, a place between life and afterlife. I have kept this hypothesis in the back of my head for a while, and as the seasons progress, I must say it does seem to hold steady. A few things off the top of my head are character's like Echo; fast forwarding to right before he died, he argued with his dead brother about whether or not he [Echo] has lead a good life or not. Once Echo proclaims he did in fact live a good life he is immediately "killed" by the mysterious black smoke (which could just be considered an extension of the island). Echo resolved his outstanding issue, rid himself of the skeleton in his closet, and was then taken away from the island. In an early episode, there is a lady that drowns while swimming. Boone tries to save her but ends up getting rescued by Jack. After the lady dies, one of the other characters goes into a little monologue about how the woman who drowned "wasn't supposed to be on the plane", apparently she had to depart a scuba diving trip early due to illness. This could be an example of someone who wasn't supposed to go through the trials of this purgatory. At the least, one has to wonder why the show felt the need to discuss how she was not supposed to be on the flight. If you take Jack, one of his skeletons is his father, there have been episodes showing Jack chasing his father around the island, as well as episodes showing the father tell Jack he doesn't have what it takes to be a great person. Jack is still alive, just as he hasn't shaken his past issues with his father. Then there's Desmond, last nights episode really revealed a ton about him, and about the island/reality they are all living in. To quickly sum up what I think of the whole future telling/being flung into the past thing: I think that when Desmond turned the key after the numbers weren't entered into the computer, he saved the entire world. The reward for completing such an unselfish act was that not only does he get rid of his skeleton (not proposing to Penny), he gets to go back in time and correct his mistake. Last night, he doesn't propose to Penny because, at the time, he thought he was going crazy. Later, once he realizes he really has "been there before", at that place in time, it's too late; he blew his chance, and is put back on the island (worthy to mention, he has been to the same place/time at least twice, the number of times he has saved Charlie thus far). There are more examples that can be applied to this hypothesis, but there are even more holes/issues that can be found with it. One is, we already have pretty solid evidence that the island is somewhere on Earth, remember to when we saw the crew of men at the north or south pole contact Penny after detecting the electromagnetic blast. It is odd that purgatory would be on Earth. There is really a ton up for individual interpretation, which is likely why the show is so successful. Needless to say, I am extremely excited for next weeks episode, where "3 of the islands biggest mysteries" are going to be answered...how exciting.
On other notes, I got my camera, and the ping pong table is finally assembled. The latter had a much longer duration of time between opening and using, as the table took a considerable amount of time to assemble. I would much rather put together a web site than a ping pong table. There has been a considerable amount of snow fall in my neck of the woods. I had to travel down to Queens yesterday via Amtrak, and my 10 mile drive home from the train station took almost as long as the 90+ mile train ride to the station. I would have to say that peoples inexperience or pure stupidity contributed to the road travel issues as much as the actual snow accumulation. Oh well, maybe I will take some nice pictures of bad drivers.
I'm tired. Good night.
a quick shout out from my couch

- Products - Rome - Lost - site
Good stuff everyone. Although this site is still in a very early stage of development, I have enjoyed a steady flow of traffic over the past 2 weeks. I have been doing a good amount of work on the photo pages. Today was my first opportunity to test it in Internet Explorer 6, and not to my surprise, it did not display as intended. The problem is likely with my the margins,so the fix shouldn't be too difficult. This is yet another reason to USE FIREFOX!
Now on to some quick talking points:
LOST - I will not be a spoiler to anyone who has not seen the season premier (is it the season premier, or is this still considered season 3?). If anyone has missed any of the LOST episodes, since the pilot, then you can watch them for free at: ABC The quality is pretty good, and you can double the screen size by clicking a button in the lower right hand screen. I did encounter some choppiness but it's free, so no use complaining. For myself, I've been downloading the episodes from iTunes...but sometimes this makes me nervous, because ultimately, I hope to own a HD version of the series, which iTunes does not yet have.
ROME - are you kidding me? ROME is so awesome, it is right up there with LOST in my top 5 TV shows of all time. Now that Octavian and Mark Antony have joined forces, I can't even imagine how sick they are going to get when they fight Brutus, who sucks in my book. I think the son Pullo had with Cleopatra, which everyone thinks was conceived by the late Julius Caesar, is still going to play some kind of role in the future. I suppose I could just catch up on some Western Civ...but then I would really spoil the show for myself.
7.1 - I purchased a Onkyo 7.1 surround system that got delivered Saturday. First off, I am very happy with the system, I got the silver HT-S790 system, it is exceeding my expectations. Origionally, I planned on only 5 of the 7 surround speakers with the sub, but after I spent a full day drilling holes and hiding wires, I realized the two additional side speakers could easily fit into the current set up. I have everything in place now and video games, music, and videos sound awesome. I can't wait for more things to be in HD, as audio quality almost always improves when video does.
Ping Pong Anyone? - To carry on the tradition Bard and I started in college, I ordered a Ping Pong table like a week ago off overstock.com. The web site said it would ship in 4-6 weeks, but I got a call today that it will be dropped off tomorrow. AWESOME. I am going to approach Ping Pong like Canasta, something I dabbled in during college but mastered in life. HOLLA.
Digital Camera - I ordered the Cannon Digital Rebel XT last night. It's an entry level digital SLR. I am excited to learn how to take better pictures. Currently, all the pictures in the photo albums were taken with a Sony 5 mega-pixel T something or anther camera. I am very happy with those photos, but that camera is more suited for parties, than landscape/etc shots. So, hopefully there will be some cool photos being posted in the coming months.
In closing, I have a soccer game in an hour...better than 11 but I would still prefer earlier. Softball sign-ups are March 12! Very excited about that, but also sad, because our captain got a great promotion to work for the company in NJ. Him and I started playing in this league 3 years ago on some random team, and then started the Magic Stick the following year...2 years and a lot of history later, we are a force to be recked with in the Coed B Division...double HOLLA. Any other quick shout outs?...hmmm...some for the site fans for sure, my Ketchup loving friend in B-Lo and the brothers that roll almost as deep a Johny Cash in the 'Cuse def deserves some love this Monday evening. A shout out to user "101", Bdel, our most recent member, who as always, delivers good feedback on site usability... "Your either building bridges, or putting up hurdles". An finally, to my best friend Pugsley, because he found out today his esophagus is too big, or too small, or too something, and when he runs up and down steps he will likely puke :-( poor little fella :-(
From the inside out, good night.

a few quick talking points this evening:
- 25 users! This is very exciting, thank you to everyone who has signed up and checked out the site. Everything is still very unrefined, so your patience is greatly appreciated.
- I have a soccer game @ 10 tonight... definitely not the ideal time on a "school night".
- LOST tomorrow, 2 hours, starting @ 9pm on ABC. My quick thoughts on LOST: I think Walk and Desmond are two of the most important/powerful characters on the show. We have already scene how Walt was able to make a bird fly into a window (killing itself) as well as the polar bears he created (in my opinion) at various times. Desmond was shown predicting the future at the end of Season 3, and at the end of a previous season, we saw how his girlfriend had a crew at one of the "poles" monitoring electromagnetic bursts (like the one that took down the plane). After the killing of my favorite character Echo, I think Sawyer is the runner up for who I like the most. Needless to say, I'm very excited for 16 straight episodes.
- I got the code working to determine the dimensions of photos, it will not be much longer before I modify some other sections of the Photo Albums pages so pictures of different sizes display correctly, thus allowing me to upload many more albums.
- the more I read these blog posts, the more I realize I could be the biggest dork in the world (but luckily am not, since I know many bigger dorks, mostly kids who graduated a year before I did in college)
